Contracting
We do a variety of trades and contracting jobs.
The very first thing we do is have an in-depth discussion of your goals and objectives. This makes sure we are all in line to provide you with the very best service possible. After we have a clear idea of what you would like; and the budget to work with, we will provide a written quote. We are extremely transparent in our quotes and welcome any inquiry. You can see exactly what you will be getting from us. Once the quote is accepted and the start date decided, we begin our prep work. If we are doing a full restoration, this will include taping the windows and doors; removing external fixtures and preparing the site for sand blasting and grinding.
We may request that you be off the working site during sand blasting for safety reasons. The site may also be difficult to access during blasting. We use glass media in our blasting which is a naturally occurring compound that won’t break down or cause environmental damage. After we finish blasting, we clean the logs to make sure the new stains adhere properly. This is when (upon request of the homeowner) we can also apply wood preservatives to protect the wood from decay and insect infestations. As logs age, they may develop cracks and/or small pockets of decay. We will inspect and seal the cracks that may pose problems to the structural integrity of the logs. An epoxy resin may be used to treat the rot that creates a water resistant barrier further protecting the wood.
Now that the logs are prepared properly, we apply the stain of your choice. Depending on the application, we use a variety of methods to properly apply the stain: airless spraying, brushes, rollers and sponges. Quite often, we apply two coats of stain and a single top coat to further extend the durability of the stain. After staining the structure, we inspect and repair any areas where the weather seal chinking has failed. Chink is a type of sealant that is used between the logs to make the house weather tight and energy efficient.
